At heart, I’m someone who cares deeply about people, place, and the spaces where the two meet.
Kia ora, I’m Dan Grant.
I’ve spent most of my working life in community sport, recreation, and education roles, supporting young people, volunteers, and communities to feel confident, connected, and included. Whether that’s delivering programmes, coordinating events, or quietly building the systems that make things run smoothly, I’m happiest when I’m helping others take part and feel like they belong.
I’m a lifelong surfer, and the moana has shaped how I see the world. That connection to place flows through both my professional work and my academic journey. I’m currently completing a Master’s in Sociology, exploring how people’s relationships with places they care about shape their values, identities, and the way they respond to change. Listening to people’s stories, experiences, and local knowledge sits at the centre of how I work.
Over the years, I’ve learned that good community work isn’t just about programmes or outcomes — it’s about trust, relationships, and showing up consistently. I’m motivated by creating environments where people feel welcome, supported, and encouraged to explore, play, and care for the places they call home.
Ngā mihi nui,
Dan
