Book Spine Poetry Contest

Celebrate National Poetry Day 2026 with Kumeu Library’s Book Spine Poetry Contest. Running from 1 to 28 August, this fun and creative competition is open to all ages, with two categories: ages 13 and under, and 14 years and over.

To enter:
Create an original poem by stacking book, audiobook or DVD spines to create a poem. At least one of the titles must be an Auckland Libraries’ item. The poem should have a minimum of three titles and a maximum of eight. No need to rhyme.

2. Stack in order
3. Take a photograph
4. Submit poem in photographic form by any of the following methods along with your name and the age category you are entering
– Email as an attachment to kumeu.library@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz with the subject Book Spine Poetry Contest
– Hand in a copy at the Kumeu Library counter
– Show us your creation in the library and we will take a photo.

Deadline: Submit your photos by 5.00pm on Friday 28 August. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 2 September.

Prizes: A prize will be awarded to the winner in each category.

Fine Print: You can enter as many times as you like but you can only win one prize. By entering the contest you certify your images and the poems are your own creations, and you give the library the right to use your name and photograph of your poem for publicity and promotional purposes. All decisions are final. Prizes must be claimed in person.
