Community Conversations
In collaboration with Community Think, the Rodney Community team are hosting a series of small, local conversations across Snells Beach — and everyone’s welcome to be part of it. This isn’t a formal consultation. It’s simply people talking with each other about the place they live: what’s good about it, what could be better, and what might be worth doing something about.
We’re inviting people across Snells Beach to be part of a series of small, local conversations.
This is a chance to:
- talk about what you love about Snells
- name what’s not working so well
- share where you think more attention is needed
It’s not a consultation in the usual sense — it’s about people talking with each other, not just feeding back to council.
There are a few ways to get involved — whatever suits best. People can come along to informal sessions being hosted at different spots around the community over the coming weeks. Or if there’s already a group meeting regularly — a sports club, a neighbours’ get-together, a regular catch-up — the Rodney Community team can come along and join the conversation there. A quiet one-to-one kōrero is just as welcome. This is genuinely two-way: the team will be listening, and will also be sharing back what they’re hearing from others.
Over the coming weeks the team will be out and about having conversations across Snells Beach. Then, on 26 May, they’ll bring together what they’ve heard at a community hui — not a presentation, but an interactive session where people can see what’s been said, add their voice, and build on ideas together. From there, on 11 June, the focus shifts to supporting ideas to move forward. There’s funding available to back projects that come from this process — and the community will be part of deciding where that goes.
Snells Beach is a community with a lot going on — and a lot of different views about it. Rather than tackling one issue at a time from the top down, the aim is to create space for people to hear each other, understand what’s underneath the surface, and get behind small, practical ideas that people actually care about.
Check out the programme of small pop-up conversations happening from April 28th to 9th May 2026. More details to come.
