Lou Perkins
Community Facilitator - Mahurangi East to Leigh
We’re inviting people across Snells Beach to be part of a series of small, local conversations.
This is a chance to:
- talk about what you love about Snells
- name what’s not working so well
- share where you think more attention is needed
It’s not a consultation in the usual sense — it’s about people talking with each other, not just feeding back to council.
How it works
There are a few ways to be part of it:
- Come along to a small activity or conversation
We’ll be hosting informal, interactive sessions across the community. - Invite us to something you’re already doing
If you’ve got a group (sports club, neighbours, regular catch-up), we can come along and join a conversation. - Have a one-to-one chat
If you’d rather just talk it through, that’s welcome too.
This is a two-way process — we’re listening, and we’re also feeding back what we’re hearing from others.
Who’s involved?
This work is being supported by the Rodney Community Team, a group focused on strengthening local connections and supporting community-led ideas.
Our role isn’t to decide what should happen — it’s to:
- create spaces for conversations
- help make sense of what’s being said
- support ideas to take shape
What happens next?
Now – Community conversations
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be out and about running a series of small conversations and activities.
You can:
- come along to something we’re hosting
- invite us into something you’re already doing
- or have a one-to-one kōrero
This is about gathering what matters to people — what’s working, what’s not, and what could be different.
This is a two-way process — we’re listening, and we’re also feeding back what we’re hearing from others.
Then – Community Hui (sharing what we’ve heard)
May 26 2026
Once those conversations have happened, we’ll bring it all together and share it back with the community.
This won’t be a presentation — it’ll be interactive.
It’s a chance to:
- see what’s been said across Snells Beach
- add your voice
- build on ideas together
Then – Backing community ideas
June 11 2026
From there, we’ll support ideas to take shape and bring them back to the community.
There’ll be a pot of funding to support projects that come from this process — and the community will be part of deciding where that goes.
Why this approach?
We know there are lots of views in Snells Beach — and not all of them line up.
Rather than trying to solve one issue at a time, this is about:
- creating space for people to hear each other again
- understanding what’s going on underneath the surface
- backing small, practical ideas that people actually care about
How to get involved
