18/10/2026: Ride Ātiu – Free Guided Mountain Biking at Ātiu Creek Regional Park

Pedals, paddocks and plenty of smiles!

What a day! As part of Biketober celebrations, on Sunday 18 October, 37 riders hopped on bikes and set off to explore Ātiu Creek Regional Park, and we’re pretty sure the sheep enjoyed the company too.

Ride Ātiu, brought to you by the Rodney Community Team with the Regional Parks Team and the awesome crew at Bigfoot Adventures, took riders on three guided adventures through rolling farmland, shady forest and stunning harbour views. Bikes were ready and waiting, the guides were friendly, and the pace was nice and relaxed, so nobody got left behind.

Families turned out in force, with tamariki and rangatahi riding alongside the grown-ups. Best of all, nearly eight out of ten people were discovering the park for the very first time. Many loved it so much they stayed for around three hours!

“Scenic, welcoming and highly photo-worthy” pretty much sums it up. Think big skies, epic viewpoints and more than a few woolly photobombers.

This experience was free to attend, thanks to the Rodney Local Board.

Missed out? Don’t worry, lots more activities just like this one are starting soon as part of “Summer in Our Backyard” a season full of free, outdoor activities & events around Rodney, to encourage locals to get active and explore their corner of Rodney. No fancy gear or experience needed, just bring a smile and we’ll sort the rest!

Make sure to sign up to our mailing list and follow us on FB to get news of the Summer in Our Backyard programme, starting soon.
