Group singing is a simple and enjoyable way to support your wellbeing. It can lift your mood, ease stress, boost your resilience and create a real sense of connection.
In this session we will sing easy, accessible songs with simple harmonies, learning by ‘call and response’, in a lighthearted exploration of how our individual voices blend together to create something richer as a group.
No experience or music skills are required – if you haven’t sung in a long time, or have never sung in a group setting before, you’re especially welcome. Come along and sing for fun. Be brave and try it out!
While this workshop is designed with adults in mind, older children/youth are welcome to join in if they’d like to participate.
A note from Anna:I hear a lot of people saying “I’d love to come, but you wouldn’t want me joining in – I can’t sing a note to save myself!” – perhaps we think one has to ‘have talent’, or you might have an embarrassing memory of trying out for the school choir; or was told to ‘shush’ as a child – somewhere along the way, we often decide that “I can’t sing”. This can lead to fear and judgement around making any ‘sound’ and sadly, we shut our expression down.
I believe singing is our natural birthright – we’ve been doing it since we took our first breath – and new, positive singing experiences can play an important part in healing those wounds. Watching a group of complete strangers coming together, and within a short time seeing them open up and enjoy themselves – singing, laughing, healing – never ceases to amaze me.
There are so many powerful songs floating out on the ether – songs of the seasons – hope, grief, anger/protest, peace, love – crafted by lots of talented people, and it is a joy to be able to ‘catch’ a few and share them with you.
