Join us for Kai and Kōrero: Matariki Market Day celebrations come early to Matakana Village in Matakana Farmer’s Market. A community event for Whānau – Family Friendly, Pakeke – Adults.
Live music, kapa haka performances and the sharing of kai will set the scene for Matakana Village’s biggest Matariki celebration yet on Sunday 5 July 2026 – in partnership between Matakana Village & Farmers’ Market and Unity Collection. The much-loved free annual event, now in its fourth year, on the Matakana Coast invites locals and visitors to come together to celebrate the Māori New Year through culture, connection and community. The four-hour programme runs from 11am to 3pm with this year’s focus on sharing kai and kōrero, celebrating tamariki and showcasing local talent. There will be kapa haka performances, live music with a headline performance by White Chapel Jak, hands-on weaving workshops, book signing with Miriama Kamo, a kōrero with actor/writer Rob Mokaraka (Shot Bro), delicious kai to savour, kawakawa tea tastings, farmers’ market stalls, Matariki-inspired face painting, an opportunity to hang a star on a tree of remembrance for a loved one and to learn more about the significance of the Matariki star cluster.
