5pm-7pm – Kupenga o Matariki Opening Night Celebrations starting with Live Weaving at 5pm

‘Kupenga O Matariki’ follows with a very unique celebration opening event this year on the 9th July, kicking off with Matariki book reading by Anne Coppell Helensville Library and Service Centre for the tamariki at 4pm on our Giant Wheke soft sculpture in the basement gallery where we will also host the Library’s annual Teddy Sleepover and a Matariki Glow in the Dark display by Craftafternoon Kids.
‘Kupenga O Matariki’ opening will follow at 5pm with live weaving to join in by Maria Kaka Raranga Hou by MK. The exhibition is a collaborative wall piece fishing net, kupenga, by students in our Raranga Flax Weaving class tutored by Maria who will also have her own work on display. The show will run through our extended gallery rooms exhibiting local artists.
