Matariki Lantern Walk

📅 Thursday 9th July 2026 – 5.30pm
📍Mahurangi River Board Walk, Warkworth – meet at Stirling Sports.

We are inviting all local childcare centres and young ones to be part of our upcoming Matariki Lantern Walk!

We’re encouraging local tamariki to get involved by making a lantern and joining us for a beautiful evening community walk along the river.

We’ll be meeting at 5:30pm on Queen Street near Stirling Sports, where I’ll be handing out free LED candles for the children’s lanterns. The walk will begin at 6pm from the new ramp to the river there, and continue along the riverside to the Masonic Hall carpark (poster attached includes a map). The lights across the river will be on, so it should be a really lovely and magical atmosphere for the kids.

At the end of the walk, the Scouts will be running a sausage sizzle (cash only) and providing free hot chocolates for everyone to enjoy.

Make your own lantern at home or join us at a Lantern making workshop at Warkworth Library – Tuesday 7th July 10.30am

If you’d like to be involved, please let me know! It would be really helpful to get an idea of numbers so we can make sure we cater for everyone.

Thanks to support from Warkworth Scouts and Rodney Local Board.
