New free community space opens in Helensville in time for Matariki A brand new pop-up community space has opened in Helensville, giving locals a free spot to enjoy a coffee, read a library book, or simply sit and chat with friends. The space is located in the Helensville War Memorial Hall Courtyard, right outside the Helensville Library and Service Centre at 49 Commercial Rd. Community Facilitator, Arwen Flowers says the idea is to revitalise this space so that it becomes a place to gather and a venue for pop-up activities and events. The courtyard now features new large locally made tables and seating by local company Breswa Furniture, painted in colours inspired by a striking new mural on the nearby Art Centre. Gorgeous planters, gifted by South Kaipara Good Food, add further colour and life to the space. The launch coincided with the unveiling of the new Art Centre mural, marked with karakia at midday on 9th July 2026. Following the unveiling, locals were encouraged to make their way over to the courtyard to explore the new space for themselves. Arwen Flowers says this is just the beginning, with kids’ games, library activities, and potentially even live performances planned for the courtyard over the coming months as the space continues to develop. The initiative is a placemaking project delivered by the Rodney Community Team in partnership with Rodney Local Board, aimed at creating a welcoming, free gathering space for the Helensville community. Locals are encouraged to visit the space and see the transformation for themselves. Anyone wishing to utilise the space for a community activity or event is encouraged to contact Arwen.
