There was a lovely buzz around Rodney during the April school holidays, thanks to the Play Bingo initiative run by Rodney libraries in collaboration with the Rodney Community team.

Instead of the usual numbers, Play Bingo cards were filled with fun, local activities encouraging tamariki and whānau to get out and explore Rodney’s own backyard. Families could pick up a card from their local library, complete the activities, share photos using the QR code, and return their finished card.

No big cost, no complicated booking system — just a fun reason to visit the library, head outdoors, try something new, and notice the great places we have in Rodney.

And Rodney families really got behind it, with 547 participants taking part across the school holidays. That is a fantastic reminder of how much our community values local, low-cost activities that bring people together.

From libraries to parks, beaches, playgrounds, and neighbourhood walks, Play Bingo showed that adventure does not have to be far away. Sometimes it starts just down the road.

Keep an eye on your local Rodney library for more free whānau-friendly activities and community events throughout the year.
